  1. I understand she was bought down to New Zealand by the NZ government as a trial and research of what was feasible.

The Paramount successfully fished skipjack in January
to March 1975, and in 35 fishing days caught 1100 tonnes.
She could have caught much more if time had not been lost to repairs and unloading problems.
Catches were made mainly in the Bay of Plenty.
We did catch and land 175 tonnes in one set.
    Anthony Tipiech was the Captain.

A few years later I saw the Paramount with Anthony T. outfishing many other boats on “local banks” getting a respectable tonnage every time they shot on a school of bluefin, while the line up of skunks or only an ortizer on that school.

In June 1975, the Paramount then went up to New Guinea, basing itself out of Rabaul, Harbour on New Ireland. Island.
There were Japaneses bait boats around and a reefer mother ship that was a “Liberty boat” ww2 vintage.
We caught no fish, as there was no thermocline with in reach of the net.

The Paramount was built in 1946

Those 2 wells at the stern, when unloading, certainly created a few bent backs.
