First Photo!

Well, they say that everything has a beginning. For me, It was this photo I took of the Dominator, in San Pedro while unloading. At the time, I was aboard the Proud Heritage and it was around 1975-76. Who would have thought I would eventually end up with over 1,000 photos of the fleet? Hobbies start at the weirdest time!!!

  1. Jimmy,
It is really great to see this information in a blog format. It makes for easy reading and especially for looking at the pictures. I am not from a fishing family, however, it is a subject that always intrigued me since coming to San Diego.
Most important is the fact that there are many families, who are descendants of tuna fishermen who have no idea of what fishing was like, its dangers and how courageous these men were. Your blog gives them an insight into the activity.
In highlighting some of the pillars of the industry, you show that these bigger than life men, saw themselves as common folks. Having had some limited contact with these men, I know that they they had unique talents and were innovators, always finding better and more effective ways to perform their craft, yet caring for their crews.
I invite you to visit my blog, http://corisco-california.blogspot.com/. I have included some items about tuna fishing and will continue to do so. I will also put a link in for your blog.

  2. Checking out you pictures for the first time. I was on the Dominator, during this time. I was probably unloading there. Auggie Rebello was the captain and Joe Murisco (sp) was the chief. We had some great trips.
